LATEST UPDATE - New information means there is a tsunami threat - https://www.facebook.com/WREMOnz/posts/1427627953933166
NO TSUNAMI THREAT - Lots of folks asking the question but, there's not tsunami threat from this earthquake since this one was on land.
UPDATE - No threat for Wellington. MCDEM have revised the threat for the South Island only.
I'm glad you are thinking about it though. Any earthquake that's big enough that you can't stand up, or goes on for longer than a minute is a sign that you should head inland and uphill out of the tsunami evacuation zones, especially when you don't have any information about how big it was or where it was located. That kind of event isn't one where you should be waiting for any other warning than the notification that the planet already has installed called a large earthquake. Long or strong is the warning.
#throwbackthursday to one of my most popular recipes ever – the Strawberry Cloud Cake from my first Free Range Cook book. If you haven't tried it, here's the recipe, or you can find it on my website http://bit.ly/2fDQxOR
Ready in 4 1/2 hrs, serves 10-12
150g plain sweet biscuits ½ cup desiccated coconut 1½ tsp ground cinnamon 100g butter, melted 2 egg whites, at room temperature 1 cup sugar 250g (1 punnet) ripe strawberries, hulled and sliced 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp vanilla extract
Line the base of a 26-28cm springform cake tin with baking paper or waxed paper.
Make the base by putting the biscuits in a paper bag and crushing them into crumbs with a rolling pin. Pour into a medium bowl and stir in the coconut, cinnamon and butter. Press firmly into the base of the prepared tin. It doesn’t need to be a thick layer – just enough to cover the base. Refrigerate while you prepare the filling.
Place egg whites, sugar, strawberries, lemon juice and vanilla in the clean, dry bowl of an electric mixer. Beat on high speed for about 6-8 minutes until the mixture is very thick and fluffy and the sugar has dissolved. To test whether it's ready, rub a little between your fingers – you shouldn't feel any gritty sugar. Spoon over the chilled base, smooth the top, cover with baking paper and freeze for at least 4 hours. It will keep in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a month. Serve frozen, cut into wedges using a knife that has been warmed in hot water. Garnish with fresh berries.
Congratulations to the amazing people running the "Dunedin Study" and thanks as well to the incredible people who are the heart of this astounding research that has now been running for four decades.
Thanks to this incredible collaboration between the study members, the pool of investigators from around the world, and the team at the University of Otago who keep this thing moving ever onwards, we are learning profoundly important things about who we are, and most importantly, why we are.
It is a truly deserved recognition of this astounding project.
