A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU, SOME TEARS AND A HUG. A little more than two years ago a lost little dog came into our care. She wasn't the roaming the streets kind of lost, she had had a home before being signed into our care. But little Tasha was a lost soul, her person had moved towns, leaving her behind, as she was the office dog. People patted her on the head during the day and she slept alone in the empty office at night. Her needs were met by kind people, but her little old body started to show signs of stress.
When 13-15 year old Tasha arrived in our care she was scared by the upheaval, unsure of who to trust and mostly bald. We knew a shelter, even the love of our HUHA shelter was last thing this sweet old lady needed, so we called Tracy.
Tracy is our foo foo (small breed) Fosterer. For four years she has taken in the old and wonky and the young and the misunderstood. She has laughed and cried with us, as together we have found perfect happy ever afters for the little ones in her care. But every once in a while as we place a elderly and confused precious bundle into Tracy's arms, we know in our hearts that her home will be their last....because for "lost" little dogs like Tasha, who don't have a lot of life left, Tracy is home, she is their peace xx
Tasha passed away today in Tracy's arms with help from the wonderful Ian at Stokes Valley Vets. She is thought to have been 15-17 years and she was treasured and loved.
Thank you Tracy for your amazing dedication, and through this heartbreak, please know that you are treasured and loved too xxxx

The people of Havelock North are like family to us. Recent events haven’t been kind to them. To help, Wattie’s are donating 14 pallets of chicken soup (that’s 21,504 cans!). Please spread the word by sharing this post with any friends and family in Havelock North so they can collect some for themselves.
When: Friday, 19th August. From 10am until the cans are gone. Where: New World Havelock North car park. Look for the Toll truck and the Wattie’s signage.
Countdown Waiheke with Phil Goff - where they're no longer giving away plastic bags, and sell only biodegradable ones. Phil's just announced a policy that supermarkets in Auckland will have to charge for plastic bags. The UK managed an 85% drop in use when they did the same thing. Sounds like a winner to me, on all fronts.
Over the weekend I heard a wicked yarn from old mate that I thought was worth sharing.
The importance of proving yourself: A builder mate of mine took on an apprentice boy to train up on all the necessary skills to become a qualified builder. Day 1 came and went and it got to day 30. The young guy went up to old mate one day and said to him that he'd had a guts full of working there and wouldn't be coming back on Monday, so he could stick his job because he was sick of only getting to make bloody coffees! That's fine old mate says to the boy, I can understand your frustration. Let me tell you something he says, on day 1 we gave you one job, at five to 10 and five to 3 to turn the jug on for a hot brew. You've been here a month now and still aren't able to do it without having to be reminded. John has a coffee with milk and sugar, Matt has a coffee with milk and no sugar, and I have a black tea. But you don't remember that and have to come and ask us every time what it is that we all have, we even wrote it down for you but you lost the list. The test isn't whether you can make the drinks, it's doing something you've been asked of without having to be constantly reminded.
Now you ask me why I'd trust you to build anything?
The same as this is true in every scenario, everything in life is a chance to do the best that you can do. As I always say... above all else attitude is the key, skills will come later.

More photos from the helicopter fly over of the Kaikoura Coastal Road. Check out those train tracks. They're still together but they've been shoved a long way off the rail way track bedding. Also if you've driven that road you'll know the severity and scale of those cliffs when you're in a car beside them. The clean up and rebuild will be a massive job!
