The government’s immigration policy is sinister. There’s not a care in the world for young Kiwis getting jobs and setting themselves up for life. As we have said previously, many new nurses are without work, yet 7000 nurses from overseas have been given work visas under National in the last seven years. Immigration is not slowing down. Today the latest figures show a new record has been set – migration arrivals at 126,700 for the year. Arrivals over departures is a record 70,400 – over 1300 new people a week looking for a place to live and many need a job. National is taking the cheaper option. It wants migrants as a more compliant workforce, stifling fair wages and driving down New Zealand workplace conditions New Zealanders are being side-lined with a government hell-bent on adding to the population to boost consumptive growth, as opposed to working on increasing productivity for long-term economic gains.

Yesterday a man was convicted in the Te Kuiti District court for beating his dog so badly that she had blood in her urine.
Tautu Thompson, 23, was sentenced to four months community detention, disqualified from owning dogs for 10 years, fined $1,500, and ordered to pay veterinary costs of $344.84.
The judge also ordered Thompson's dog be given to the SPCA, along with all other dogs he owns.
Thompson's dog was rescued by an SPCA Inspector after a member of the public reported him beating the dog.
The Inspector took the dog for urgent veterinary attention, which revealed the dog had a puncture wound between the eyes, bleeding from both nostrils, bleeding within her right eye, bruising and swelling around her left hind leg, swollen eyes and ears, bloody diarrhoea, and bloody urine.
Fortunately, after vet treatment and TLC the dog made a full recovery. She has been living with an SPCA foster family who may now adopt her and give her the loving home she deserves.
"This is a horrific case of violence against a defenceless animal," says SPCA New Zealand CEO Ric Odom.
"We are pleased that the court has handed down a reasonably tough sentence in this case due to the violent nature of the offending and the defendant's lack of remorse. We hope this sends a strong message to the community that it's not okay to beat your animals under any circumstances."
