Joseph Parker won the WBO World Heavyweight Title on Saturday 10 December.
Parker threw more punches, 560 vs 416 that Ruiz threw, and most importantly, Parker landed more punches 119 vs 107.
Parker landed the heavier and cleaner blows, finally working his jab to good effect.
In the aftermath, the fighters' faces told the story of the respective glovework – Parker virtually unblemished while Ruiz was puffy and reddened.
Well-respected ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael, who scored the bout 115-113 to Parker in a Twitter feed on fight-night, has released his brief report in his weekly "scorecard" wrap of the highlight fights of the previous weekend.
Rafael left no doubts about the result in his mind.
"Parker got the well-deserved nod in a majority decision that was in no way a hometown call," Rafael wrote.
"He earned it as he rallied over the second half of the fight (though it was not very exciting).
"After Ruiz put several early rounds in the bank against the slow-starting Parker, the latter picked up the pace and landed some nice combinations to do just enough to eke out the rounds he needed for victory."

NZ doesn’t need more petrol pump attendants and restaurant workers from overseas. The influx of tens of thousands of foreign students has created massive competition for low skilled jobs. Many of the students are desperate to earn money. A large recruitment company in Auckland told us huge numbers are applying for jobs as drivers, warehouse workers and customer service workers. There’s a lot of concern that foreigners are given work visas when they know nothing about working in New Zealand. They have little understanding of an employer’s expectations, poor English and are generally unsuited for the jobs. They’ve been enticed to NZ by promises from dodgy agents of jobs and the chance to stay permanently. A rosey picture has been painted. We have record immigration of 125,000 with net 69,000 people being allowed to live here permanently each year. That’s putting pressure on all state services, like hospitals. NZ needs to limit immigration to those we need and not those who need us.
A picture says a thousand words. Thanks to The New Zealand Fire Service for their work so far, and thank you to the many others that have helped. Special mention to Steve Askin whom lost his life in the helicopter crash earlier in the week while fighting the fires.

Who's looking forward to the release of Disney's new movie 'Pete's Dragon'??? A remake of the 1977 Disney cartoon, this is the story of a young boy, Peter and his special bond with his friend Elliot who just so happens to be a dragon. Making it even more special, is that much of the movie was filmed in the beautiful south island of NZ, between Dunedin and Gore. It's coming to NZ cinemas on Thursday 15th September, just in time for the school holidays, and Disney NZ have very kindly given us three special 'Pete's Dragon' packs to give away - one each for three lucky winners.
Each pack contains one each of: a cap, puzzle, notebook, fruit infuser water bottle, camping tent, 2-in-1 blanket and pillow plus 2x double in-season passes to see the movie when it is released (ie tickets for 4 people - please note you will need to make your own way to theatre).
If you'd like to be in to win one of these packs, make a comment below and we will select our three winners at around 5pm on Tuesday 13th September.

What do you call a group of kākāpō? Here are just five of the chicks hatched this year being looked after in Invercargill. This kākāpō breeding season has been the most successful since DOC and Forest & Bird started managing kākāpō 25 years ago. We're proud to be partners on Kakapo Recovery - The Official Site and are just stoked to see how well they've done this year. Kimberley
