More than $24K has been raised today for a Christchurch family, including a disabled girl, whose home was ransacked by looters when they fled for safety following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake overnight.
Porirua welcomes our bravest of warriors, the Maori Battalion with Kai moana, Hangi and Waiata January 23rd 1946.
When they fought, it was as one unit - and many of them died together as one unit. German veterans have marvelled at the bravery and fierceness of our warriors in their stories.
I pay my respects to the men who sacrificed so much - The 28th Maori Battalion and to every Maori veteran who has ever served ... including many from my own whanau ... Taawhi Kerehona, Robert (Boye) Biddle, Jack (Hohua) Biddle and Brent Kerehona Pukepuke-Ahitapu.

In my two hour #Helen4SG session with the UN General Assembly on Thursday, I made a ten minute statement , and then had 88 questions put to me. The questions were very wideranging, covering all aspects of the UN's work and mandate. Here's a link to the webcast of the 2+ hours: http://webtv.un.org/watch/helen-clark-new-zealand-informal-dialogue-for-the-position-of-the-next-un-secretary-general/4846224774001 Press coverage has been extensive and generally very positive. I've tweeted a lot of it on @Helen4SG #Helen4SG. Here's the report froma major New Zealand news source; you will find plenty more from Reuters and other international sites too. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/78950619/Helen-Clark-makes-pitch-for-Secretary-General-job-in-speech-to-United-Nations?cid=app-iPhone
The Hurricanes could not be prouder of Ma'a Nonu who has been named as the 2016 Wellington Sportsperson of the Year. Firstly, congratulations to all the finalists and winners across all categories at the Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards tonight. Ma'a's award comes at the end of an outstanding 12 month period that saw him propel the Hurricanes into the Super Rugby 2015 final, then play an influential role in helping the All Blacks win the Rugby World Cup, including a spectacular 50m try in the final. In December he was named New Zealand Rugby’s Player of the Year. To a player who has worn the Hurricanes jersey more than 100 times and always with immense pride, this award could not be more deserving. Well done Ma'a from everyone at the Hurricanes. Congrats also to the 2015 Hurricanes team, head coach Chris Boyd and Nehe Milner Skudder who were all finalists for awards.http://www.hurricanes.co.nz/the-canes/news/single/item/nonu-scoops-2016-wellington-sportsperson-of-the-year-award/
The horrible truth behind marshmallow farmers. Now that they are fat from grazing all summer, they will be slaughtered to make smaller ones, bagged and sold in stores. Some are cut up and held over a fire while still alive! Remember that golden brown is the only humane way.
