Kiwis are missing out on owning a home. We know what the problem is but politically correct NZ won’t say it. It’s black and white - record immigration and foreign buyers. Both are fuelling the housing market. Aucklanders know it. At this moment in time, demand is flowing from China. Don’t blame the Chinese, it’s our lax policies. The evidence is there. Real estate companies have dozens of Chinese agents. Colour real estate booklets are written in Chinese. There’s land banking, and new owners sitting on empty houses. If half the buyers at an auction in Auckland are born in China there’s a problem. That was the count this week, and all potential buyers wanted an investment property. Some may have permanent residency. But their money is from China, and who knows if they are buying on behalf of someone there. Let’s be fair and give Kiwis a chance. Lessen demand by ending foreign buying and dramatically reduce immigration.
I'm very humbled and honoured to receive this award. I have been blessed with an amazing career, with so many highlights both on and off the field. I love representing my country and I take the responsibility that comes with wearing the black singlet very seriously. I have had great opportunities to work in the community here in NZ and In the Pacific, sharing my stories and experiences to help provide inspiration, motivation, and hope, where I can for our youth to pursue their goals and develop their talents in sport, in school, in life.
Helping people to realise their potential keeps me going.
To be recognised in this way is very humbling for me. I'm a very proud New Zealander and very proud to have this so bestowed. I'm delighted.
Thank you to everyone for all the love and support on this journey, but we haven't finished yet.

So Family First have released a 'report' saying that the primary driver of child poverty is people not getting married. Usually I'd ignore something as blatantly silly as this, but seeing that it's being given some air time it seems worthy of comment.
Not the report itself though, because that is a nonsense. Saying that because child poverty has risen since the 1960's, and because the proportion of families where the parents are married has dropped, means that child poverty is caused by less people getting married, is so completely flawed it's hardly worthy of comment. I could use this flawed understanding of correlation and causality to make a case for climate change causing child poverty, or the rise of iPhone sales causing child poverty, or the rise of reality TV series.
The real problem with organisations like Family First, I believe, is that they say they are acting in the interests of 'families' when really they're simply a conservative and ideologically driven organisation whose interests aren't in supporting families per se, but rather a very narrow range of 'family' which fits their very narrow world view of what a decent family is.
Free speech is important, I believe in it passionately. So they have the right to say whatever they like. I just believe their 'speech' isn't about supporting families, it's about marginalisation and alienation. I don't believe they want to support all families, just the ones they think are okay. Their 'report' is hopelessly flawed, and their argument is at best hopelessly misinformed. Rather than help to alleviate the burden placed on some families, they simply add to it.
Still, at least this means Family First should now start supporting same sex marriages. So maybe there really is a sliver lining to this cloud of confusion.
And please... if you want to comment here then keep it respectful and polite. Discuss the content, don't attack the person. My house, my rules.
UPDATE: for the record. I have read the report. The fundamental and very obvious flaw in the report is that correlation does not equal causation. It's that simple.
