The National government has panicked over the polls on immigration. So they’ve tinkered with the numbers – as they become flooded with applications for residency. But that won’t fool anyone. Dropping their residency approvals by 5000 to an upper limit of 95,000 is nothing, and making a reduction to the parent category will make little difference. We’ll still be getting 1900 people a week coming in. National has given us years of record immigration. Kiwis are competing for jobs, especially in lower skilled work. Kiwis are struggling to rent or buy a home. Immigration is now at 125,000 a year, and it’s putting huge pressure on all our public services – hospitals and schools. Auckland is bulging at the seams. There’s nothing to reduce the pressure in today’s feeble changes.
Our Toyota ambassador Dame Valerie Adams will be joining in on the fun for the 2017 Hilux New Zealand Rural Games! The weekend event is being held on The Square and features national and trans-Tasman championships for traditional sports like speed shearing and wood chopping alongside fun contests for spectators including speed milking, hay stacking and wine barrel racing. Entry to the event is free so keep an eye out for our Toyota tent and a chance to meet Dame Valerie.
Someone just pointed out to me that this photo (which I should point out was taken days ago!) looks strikingly similar to a pose that one Mr Burns used to adopt. Unfortunate. I'm still super surprised by National's decision not to stand in Mt Albert. By-elections are a chance to share your vision and ideas, feels really strange to have a political party opt out of that.
New Year means New Profile Photo time. Please stick your best photos below.

If you're lost for Christmas gifts, you can't go past giving a jar of make-your-own cookies! This My Food Bag Cranberry White Chocolate Cookie recipe is perfect for it - layer up the dry ingredients: 1/2 cup large oats 1/2 cup dedicated coconut 1/3 cup chopped dried cranberries 1/2 cup whole meal flour + 1/2 teaspoon baking soda + 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup coconut or brown sugar 1/4 cup finely chopped white chocolate or chocolate chips Then all the person has to do is add 75g melted butter, 2 tablespoons golden syrup or honey and 1-2 tablespoons milk or water, mix together, roll tablespoons and flatten slightly on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for 15-20 min at 180degC (you can put the instructions on a sticky label on the jar). Great one for the kids to get busy with!
BREAKING NEWS. A few precious spaces have just opened up on this year's trip to Italy (it sold out within two weeks last year!). And awesomely, Tuscany has been added to the itinerary - my favourite place in the whole of Italy. We even partake in a wee cooking class there after foraging at the local markets in Florence! Click here for all the deets: http://chelseawinter.co.nz/italywithchelsea. Be quick though. Tag anyone else you think might be keen xx
While we're on the topic of shoutouts I'd like to put one out to all the guys and girls driving Trucks out there which keep NZ moving, many of whom miss out on Xmas with their own Families trying to get the latest iPhone or Box of piss to your local Shop. Everyone is very quick to have a dig at them but we never actually say thanks for the work that they do, which gets groceries and supplies to towns 24/7 in all weathers on quite honestly pretty average money for many. Hearing everyone bang on about Trucks damaging the new detour road SH63 honestly makes my piss boil. Do you think they like it anymore than anyone else does? Every truck we saw last night was bloody courteous and a pleasure to share the Road with, unlike countless numbers of Braindead pricks passing them on blind corners and cutting people off. Thank you Trucking community!
