Just letting you guys know I'll be out of reach for a few days - I'm having some downtime to reconnect with myself and nature after the happy craziness of launch! And so because I manage this page 100% myself (which is how it should be), you might not see a response straight away. I expect to see loads of photos from Scrumptious when I check back in and I can't wait to see them all! xx Happy cooking!

Sorry to sound like a stuck record but questions must be asked about the mystery American who bought Hunter Valley Station in Otago. One criteria used to approve his purchase was that he’s “a key person in a key industry”. But his identity is a secret. The public has a right to know. He’s got land ownership now, is NZ citizenship next? It seems to be one law for rich foreigners, with the government bending over backwards, and another for the rest of us. Let’s hope approval wasn’t based on the sales agent’s comment that he’s “an asset” and will be better than any Kiwi owner.
We've got BIG news! You might need to sit down for this one..with a strong cup of tea!
We have just put the new Manakau land on the the market! But don't panic its a good thing...in fact its because we have a bigger and better opportunity to achieve HUHA's ultimate dream to develop a rescue rehab and community center that everyone can be proud of!!
Over the xmas break there were complaints to council because we put 6 Alpaca on the 18 acres for two weeks (there were noise breach concerns!). At the same time the front gate bolt was cut and the gates left open as well as our back gates too! And on top of that some of the Manakau community had a Che Fu concert shut down at the local pub....it was Che Fu, crikey if he can't win them over we have no show!!. So we have come to terms with the fact that no matter how careful and lovely we are, just us breathing in their air, will always cause them dicontent and to be honest we just don't have time for drama. After gaining resource consent through Environmental Court we have every right to go ahead with our plans at Manakau - but the truth is we don't want anyone to get hurt...and our intention was always to be an asset and make our community proud, and sadly we are not confident that the Manakau community will ever see us that way. But don't stress this story has a golden lining...seriously we searched for 3 years for the ideal happy ever after for HUHA and after a few false starts, at last we have found it!!
On the 23rd of December we had an offer accepted on 157 acres. ..yup 157 NEIGHBOUR FREE, DO WHAT WE LIKE, BUILD THE PERFECT PARADISE ACRES on the Haywards Hills. We are so excited, we will never out grow this spot, and will even be able to provide the community with an off leash forest Park to use and enjoy! We are currently going through the due diligence stage, but hope to settle and start building ASAP.
And to complete our puzzle of growth we have also been giving the opportunity (due to sad and serious health issues:0( ) to take possession of the Stokes Valley Vet Clinic, a family run business that has been loved and admired by its clients for around 40 years. We hope to continue to be an asset to the community and make Ian and Lorna proud as they hand over the keys in the coming weeks.
In the meantime we are still in Otaki as plans for Winstones to demolish the park have been delayed and we have been allowed an extension (how crazily convenient and unexpected is that!!).
The Manakau property has been an important stepping stone, as we have developed it and relocated a four bedroom cottage it has valued up and will help us achieve the move to the 157 acres on the Haywards. For those of you who have invested time or donations you have helped us so much on this journey and we are so truly grateful...everything you have given is coming with us and will help us to continue this important and life saving work.
So that's our news!! We will be moving further away from some of you and closer to others, but please know that we are a national organisation and it doesn't matter where you are if you need us we will rally!
Please let us know if you have any questions. Sorry for the roller-coaster but boy is the ride going to be worth it for the animals...and they are who we are doing this for xx ____________________________________________________ To help us rebuild HUHA please donate $3 Txt "huha" to 4463 Thank you HUHA Community, together we can save lives!!

We are both happy and sad to announce the birth of extremely rare giraffe twin calves, a girl and a boy, to 7-year-old Kiraka. This is a bitter-sweet announcement as, unfortunately, despite the great efforts of our Pridelands and vet teams, the male’s post-birth complications became untreatable and so we said a difficult goodbye yesterday morning. Things are looking much more positive with the female calf; she has developed a strong bond with her mother and we are optimistic for the days ahead. Twins are extremely rare in giraffes with a little over 30 documented cases worldwide. We may not be in Hawaii right now - but we can still make Hawaiian chicken, dammit! I created this recipe when I was there on my honeymoon a few years ago - hence the name. It's REALLY good: http://chelseawinter.co.nz/hawaiian-glazed-chicken. (I should maybe put this one in my next book, yeah?)
Ever since I posted a photo of it a while back, I've been dreaming about going to see it - So today I went and cruised up and over Stelvio Pass, one of the most rated roads in the world. It didn't disappoint, epic drive!! A lot of shudder push in the rental though 😲
