***STAND UP DAY NZ*** For those wondering why standing up will help or those thinking it won't make a difference - think again. Here's why...
The stories are horrific. The pictures are confronting. They are all real.
If we do nothing, nothing changes so we stand up and start!
The march will serve a few purposes but all come back to essentially stopping a repeat of last year, with another 13 children being murdered.
1) Seeking justice for Moko - plea bargaining should never have happened. His death was murder. When a child is tortured day after day after day - that is intentional and that is murder!
2) A petition will be there on the day to change the plea bargain laws to prevent this happening again (the online version of the petition is pinned to the top of our main page). We need consequences for actions. This leads to also needing tougher sentencing. We need law reform.
3) The opportunity for New Zealand to finally come together and make a stand. We will be united as we speak up and say enough is enough. This has to stop. We are over excuses and blame. There are none. To harm a child is totally inexcusable and it can't be blamed on your upbringing, your environment, the government or anything else. You and only you are ultimately responsible for your actions. As a country, we will not tolerate or accept child abuse. Our collective voice will be loud and clear.
One of the most important things that is happening around the country right now is that we are speaking up and creating a massive amount of public awareness. We are taking a subject which has really been ignored because it was too sad and heartbreaking to address, so consequently (and sadly) we have almost enabled it. Now we are shaming it. This is the beginning of change. It has to start somewhere and it has to start now.
CHILDREN CANNOT STOP CHILD ABUSE. ADULTS CAN.
On the 10th of August, 2015, Moko Rangitoheriri's life tragically came to an end in the most brutal way imaginable. He was only 3 years old.
At the time of his death Moko had been in the care of Tania Shailer and David William Haerewa. They tortured him and inflicted horrific injuries. They murdered this wee boy.
Their charges were plea bargained from Murder to Manslaughter.
Sadly, this little boys death will become the catalyst to make change in New Zealand.
On Monday, 27th June 2016, Moko's killers will be sentenced. We as a country will be standing up at our local courthouses around the nation to say enough is enough. We are doing this for Moko and we are doing this for every other child harmed through abuse and neglect.
Here is your chance to have your say. Please LIKE and SHARE New Zealand!

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon advocated this week for his successor to be a woman, saying "it's high time now" after eight male Secretaries-General. He pointed out that: "There are many distinguished, motivated women leaders who can really change this world, and can actively engage with the other leaders of the world". As a candidate for the UN Secretary-General post, I heartily agree! #Helen4SG #NextSG http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11695035
