How can a cake decorator originally from India be awarded a $7 million contract to build a sewage plant? That's exactly what happened in Westland. Indian-born Vivek Goel, was working as an asset manager for the Westland District Council at the time. He has a chequered past for fraud. Yet he managed to award a multi-million dollar contract to cake baker Neha Bubna to build a sewage plant. She may be a brilliant baker, but it seems obvious she has no idea about building a sewage plant. Other local businesses were by-passed so Bubna could be awarded the contract. This is another example of National's out of control immigration policy which allows some foreign nationals to bring their corrupt practices to New Zealand.

Feel good Friday. This wee girl was born on probably the roughest night of the year in a Crop Paddock. Among the mayhem mum left her behind so she wasn't picked up until the next day by which time she was knocking on deaths door. Old mate took her Home and put her in a warm bath and slowly brought her back around to life living in a fish bin in front of the Fire. After a few nervous days not knowing if she was going to make it and having to be tube fed her condition slowly improved and she got stronger day by day. Old mate brought the girls in yesterday to give them a weigh and we are pleased to announce that ''Lucky'' is absolutely smashing her weight gain and is the biggest Heifer they've had. Just goes to show you that no matter how rough things look, anything can be turned around with a bit of extra effort

When I was young I always wanted to be a silver fern. I knew all the players names and watched ever single game. One of my favorite players was Tania Nicholson. Best smile in the game and one of the best GS there was. I wanted to be just like her, and hoped that when I grew up my legs would look like hers, best legs in the game. 😀😀 In my adult life I had the pleasure of playing in her club team for a season. The first time I met her I was delighted to discover that behind that amazing smile was an incredibly lovely, happy, positive and beautiful person. Spending a night out drinking with her solidified just how awesome she was. Tania Dalton blessed thousands of us with her smile and beautiful spirit. The world is lucky to have had her in it for 45years and I reckon she made thousands of lives that much more special for knowing her. And crammed in a lifetime of awesomeness in just 45 yrs. Rest easy gorgeous girl. What a loss to the world you are 💖 And if we take anything from such a cruel loss, it would be to live every day to its fullest and hug your family a little tighter tonight. 💖💖
Not only would I like to acknowledge the other nominees and finalists, but I'd also like to throw a big shout out to the unsung heroes in our lives who deserve recognition but never ask for it. I'm talking about mums, dads, teachers, doctors, nurses, council workers, artists, storytellers, caregivers, cleaners, community volunteers, social workers, public servants, our Helen Kelly's and our Ahi Kaa. We're a great country and as we grow, we grow together, getting better every day. I couldn't be more proud to be a Kiwi.
Thank you to the majestical island nation of Aotearoa for this huge honour! 1+1=11
I still don't have quite the right words to describe today, but I do want to say something about the folks behind me. Today my team supported me, the youngest member of their caucus, to be the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. I am incredibly grateful. I get to see firsthand how hard they all work, how much they believe in helping people, and why they are so focused on changing the government. Now bring on September!

Bill English is misguided saying New Zealanders are too drugged to get jobs – 91,000 young Kiwis haven’t got a job, and are not in training, but they are not all druggies. Overall, it’s a pathetic excuse from the PM. Immigration is at an all time high. National has done little to train Kiwis, they prefer cheaper migrant workers. Look at Christchurch. Perfect training ground. Instead there were thousands of Filipino workers, Irish and British. And at least a quarter of each of these groups were unskilled. We have our own unskilled workers but where’s the government support to get them upskilled? New Zealand First wants a state-funded programme in the army for young Kiwis to learn a trade. That will give them a good start.
This morning I’ve announced that I’ll be giving my valedictory speech on 22 March and resigning from Parliament effective from 14 April.
It has been an absolute honour to serve in Parliament since 2002, as MP for Helensville, New Zealand National Party Leader, and Prime Minister.
One of the great privileges of my political career and my life was to meet so many hard-working and inspiring New Zealanders. I remain as ambitious for them, and New Zealand, as the day I entered Parliament.
I would like to thank all those who backed me and the National-led Government to build a stronger and more resilient country. We got New Zealand back on its feet, got people into jobs, got back into surplus, and tackled natural disasters.
I have enormous faith in the leadership team of Bill English and Paula Bennett to provide the stability and continuity we need to build on that strength, while continuing to support those in need.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my wife Bronagh, and my children Stephie and Max. I absolutely could not have done this job without their ongoing love and support.
